Position Summary
The Dentist is a position that will be responsible for oversight of Dental Hygienists, dental support staff, and provides treatment and prevention instruction in accordance with best practice in oral health care. This position will work both independently to provide an exceptional experience for our patients.

Productivity and Expectations:
The Dentist is an essential component to the success of High Plains Community Health Center (HPCHC). This position is expected to prioritize time and responsibilities in the following manner:

80%: Dental Treatments and Prevention
Knowledge and competency in dentistry to include diagnostics, operative dentistry, pedodontics removable and fixed prosthodontics, periodontics, oral surgery, orthodontics, endodontics and prevention.
Assesses patients’ oral hygiene history in conjunction with their chief complaint for the dental visit to determine the care and necessary treatment plan.
Provides clinical oral hygiene services including dental prophylaxis, coronal polishing, scaling and root planning, periodontal maintenance, sealant application, flossing, and fluoride application consistent professional practices and standards and in compliance with applicable state law and clinic’s clinical protocols.
Provide oral health education for preventative dentistry, which includes proper brushing and flossing techniques; proper nutrition; the purpose of sealants; and the purpose of topical fluoride.
Provide the patient with pre and post-op instructions for periodontal procedures.
Provide home care instructions for removable prosthodontics.
Integration of appropriate patient dental hygiene care with other health care professionals involved in the patient’s health care management.
Provides treatment for dental emergencies in accordance with office protocols.
Follow and maintain infection control protocols.
Accountable for implementation and sustainability of processes and workflows for the dental care team.
Indicates awareness of staffing, scheduling process, scope of practice, policies, and procedures, and is focused on oral health care and team cohesiveness.

10%: Patient Documentation
Participate in daily ‘Huddle’ with dental team.
Respond to phone messages before each work session ends.
Follow up with incoming testing results/referrals/diagnostic orders.
Review referral documents and other patient related documents in EMR.
Prescription refills.
Monitor adherence to oral health care plans and patient progress, evaluate effectiveness and facilitate changes.
Connect patients to relevant HPCHC and community resources.
Provide disease education to patients and families to increase ability for self-management and shared decision making.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including documentation of patient care activities and tracking patient outcomes.

10%: General Duties
Provide mentorship to other clinical staff on an as needed basis.
Participates in the following meetings: Med Staff, Clinic Staff, Case Review (as needed), and other clinic related meetings as requested.
Responsible for Quality Improvement activities as directed by the Chief Medical Officer.
Responsible to the clinic providers to listen, communicate and advise in provider related affairs.
May assist with reviewing and revising procedures of the clinics.
May participate in public functions on behalf of the clinics.
Completes online education modules as required.

Qualifications
Current Dentist license in the state of Colorado.
Board Eligible or Board Certified.
Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Valid Driver’s License.
The position requires a working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. This includes but is not limited to:
- Proficiency in using the Internet, Microsoft Office programs and general computer skills.
- Skill in operating office equipment such as copier, fax machine, scanners, etc.
